Today, I reread part of the book I read in my English class at community college called, Brave New World. The book first is taken place in a factory setting with children scribbling down notes of the Director. He is basically in charge of the whole government and scientific issues. First they prepare for the removal of their women’s ovaries so they can fertilize them to make different castes of people. Once born, the people are split into four different castes: Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Epsilon. These different statuses are arranged in the order of the most intelligence and physical abilities to the least intelligence and abilities. The government plays a he role in the society because of the director’s powers/abilities over the all the castes, similar to a dictatorship. In their babies sleep, the Director has a radio going telling them how this certain group is better than another creating a sense of inferiority. Mustapha Mond, a teacher, tells his students how being guided by someone else is way better than having to make your own decisions. By telling the children the problems with motherhood, he is hoping to discourage them to keep their “perfect” society. Lina is very comfortable with her surroundings and finds all the Alpha males very charming as she had spent much time with them all. She notices the differences between the lower castes and her status, but is just happy she is not like them. Bernard, on the other, hand envies the higher caste like Benito because he feels like it is not fair to be ridiculed for his caste. Unlike Lenia, Henry is aware that his abilities are not much better than other classes like the Gammas. Though Lenia finds Bernard stranger than the males in the society she still agrees to go to New Mexico with him; and he shows her the blue sky and he wishes he could be free from the imprisonment. To discourage the kids, the Director makes up a frightful story once he heard word of Bernard and Lenia’s trip. Very worried about her new surroundings, Lenia wanted to go back to the factory when they met a male named John. He explained many things that were confusing and unfamiliar to the kids. All in all, the first eleven chapters were about describing their form of government, the inferiority between the upper and lower castes, and the sexuality among the people.
